Honors & Awards

It is RILEM’s objective to gather together the most eminent specialists throughout the world in the fields of building materials and structures. Aiming for excellence in all its activities, RILEM awards the following recognised distinctions annually:

RILEM Honorary Members

RILEM distinguishes Honorary Members. These are people who have rendered exceptional services to the association — for example, who have successfully chaired the work of several TCs, or have contributed to giving a new orientation to the association.

RILEM Fellows

Created in 1993 by the General Council, the honorary title of RILEM Fellow is bestowed upon RILEM Senior Members who have made exceptional contributions to RILEM in their capacities as research scientist, engineer, technical leader or educator.

Robert L'Hermite Medalists

In 1967 when RILEM celebrated its 20th anniversary, it was decided to create a RILEM Medal which would be granted each year to a research scientist. As an example, and to mark the high level of merit which was required of the medal holders, the first RILEM Medal was bestowed upon Prof. Ferdinand Campus, one of the founders of RILEM.  In 1981, the Medal was renamed the Robert L’Hermite Medal, in honour of the President-Founder of RILEM.

Since then, each year, the Robert L’Hermite Medal is awarded to a researcher under 40 years of age, who has made an exceptional scientific contribution to the field of construction materials and structures. (guidelines & file)

Gustavo Colonnetti Medalists

Starting in 2016, the Gustavo Colonnetti Medal is awarded each year to up to two researchers under 35 years of age, who have made an outstanding scientific contribution to the field of construction materials and structures. (guidelines file)

RILEM Best Student Poster Award

Implemented in 2017, the RILEM Best Student Poster Award is to be given at every RILEM Annual Week conference. The award is given at the conference to a student who has a poster and is at the conference to present/explain the work. The selection is made by a jury chosen by the RILEM Honorary President. The awardee receives a diploma/certificate from the TAC Chair at the conference, and a 500€ reward.

Materials and Structures is the flagship publication of RILEM. The journal is dedicated to the publication of high quality papers examining the fundamental properties of building materials, their characterization and processing techniques, modeling, standardization of test methods, and the application of research results in building and civil engineering.

Materials and Structures: Outstanding Papers

Each year, up to ten papers are selected by Materials and Structures board of editors and published as open access papers. These papers, which cover all fields of RILEM activities, exemplify the highest standards in our scientific community.

Materials and Structures: Best Reviewer Awards

The best reviewer awards are given annually and are meant to commend the top reviewers of our journal for their outstanding peer review efforts over the past year. Recipients are chosen by the board of editors from scores of nominations provided by the associate editors of the journal.
