Abstract: Use of foamed bituminous mixtures in pavement construction offers advantages like
reduction in production temperature, recycling of old pavement materials, reduced energy
consumption, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. This paper presents the results of
laboratory testing of the physical and mechanical properties of foamed bituminous mixtures
containing reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP). These mixtures were prepared with varying
percentage of bitumen (2.0% to 3.0%) and RAP material (0%, 30% and 80%). The effects of
different percentage of RAP and foam binder contents (FBC) on the indirect tensile strength
(ITS), tensile strength ratio (TSR) and resilient modulus of the foamed bituminous mixtures
were evaluated. The response surface models were developed for ITS, TSR and resilient
modulus. Analysis of variance was conducted to evaluate the significance of impact of FBC
and RAP content on these parameters. Results indicate that the RAP content and FBC have
significant effect on performance of foamed mix.
