Abstract: The selection of a proper bonding arrangement with optimum CFRP to span ratio will yield an
economical flexural strengthening project. The aim of this research is to investigate the effects
of the ratio between the effective span of the beam and the length of CFRP on flexural
performance. A total of eight reinforced concrete beams with 1900 mm span was tested. The
length of CFRP sheet applied along the tension face of the beam was varied from 66% to 88%
of the effective span. Non-strengthened and strengthened beams with different CFRP
configurations were included. It was observed that installation of end anchors changed the
mode of failure of beams and enhanced the ultimate flexural strength. The strength gained by
a beam with CFRP sheet along 77% of span length without end anchors is similar to strength
gained by a beam with CFRP sheet along 66% of span length with end anchors. The beam with
77% of span covered with CFRP showed better performance.
