Abstract: The idea of hybridization with macro and micro fibers is explored in this study in order to improve the tensile and bending response of fiber reinforced cement composites. In this concept, the cement composite is reinforced with the combined use of twisted triangular steel fibers (macro fibers) and micro fibers. Three main parameters investigated are: (a) seven different micro fibers categorized by types of materials (carbon, PVA, spectra, micro-steel); (b) bond characteristic of twisted steel fibers embedded in cement matrix reinforced with micro fibers; (c) length of twisted steel fibers (L = 18 mm and 30 mm) where the diameter of the fibers is 0.3 mm. It is observed in this study that tensile and bending response of cement composites reinforced with twisted steel fibers can be further improved by using the hybridization with macro and micro fibers. The hybrid fiber-reinforced composites are not only stronger in tension and bending, but also have higher ductility and energy absorption than the composites reinforced only with twisted steel fibers.
