Abstract: Based on the characterization of microstructure morphology and local physical properties, a micromechanics model is proposed to estimate the solute diffusion coefficient of the unsaturated hardened cement paste. The water films adsorbed on the gas-pore wall interface as well as the connectivity of the capillary pore water are accounted for in the micromechanics model. It is shown that the evolution of solute diffusion coefficient exhibits notable nonlinear decrease with saturation degree. At high saturation degree (Sr 80%), the drastic decrease of the solute diffusion with decreasing saturation degree is due to the draining of the capillary pore water.
