Abstract: Ten different fly ashes from various locations in India were mixed with OPC to produce mortars at three different water to cement ratios. All cements and fly ashes were characterised and strengths of mortars were measured at various ages. A model of the development of strength of the mortars on the basis of the physical and chemical properties of fly ashes and cements was developed. The coefficients in the model were fit using one of the fly ashes and were used to predict the strengths for the other nine fly ashes. It was found that the model was able to make good predictions of the strengths of mortars at all ages.
