Abstract: The strategic choice of building materials and components during the design process is especially important for improving the environmental performance of buildings. The life cycle assessment (LCA) of buildings and their components appears in this context as an alternative for the assessment of building production process as a whole, as well as its components in isolation. In order to contribute to the life cycle assessment database of building components, the objective of this paper is the development of a comparative Life Cycle Assessment study of structural masonry of concrete and clay blocks. The LCA methodology proposed by the norms ISO 14040 [1] and ISO 14044 [2] was used through the application script proposed by the ILCD Handbook [3]. Finally, the analysis of the results required the individual observation of each of the impact categories, since each one of the alternatives showed major contributions for different categories.
