Abstract: The management of concrete structures is increasingly moving towards the use of risk and reliability-based criteria for decision making. However, this cannot be said of the decision making related to the selection and implementation of concrete repair methods, especially 'structural' patch repair. This is notwithstanding the fact that the performance and durability of both the repair and the structure will depend on how and when they are implemented. BRE is currently working towards the development of a risk-based methodology for implementing structural patch repair, especially in relation to propping or not propping the structure during its excavation and repair. This paper presents some of previous work that led towards this project and also introduces the current projects that will lead us towards this objective.
