RYC - RILEM Youth Council

RILEM Youth Council (RYC) was created at the 74th Annual Week "in" Sheffield, United Kingdom, in September 2020, as a sub-committee of DAC.
In 2024, the General Council agreed to make the RYC a standing committee of RILEM.
RYC is formed by 12 young researchers nominated for a 2-year mandate that can be renewed for a 3-year mandate.

Structure:
Chair: Appointed by the RILEM Bureau upon recommendation from RYC Chair and DAC Chair.
Deputy Chair: Selected by the Chair from current RYC members to assist with duties and represent the Chair when needed.
Regional Representatives: One representative from each RILEM region, except Europe, which has two due to the high membership count.
Ex-Officio Members: The outgoing Chair and Secretary General.
Secretary: The RILEM Managing Assistant.
Mission of the RILEM Youth Council (RYC)
The RILEM Youth Council (RYC) plays a vital role in ensuring the continuity and growth of RILEM by fostering the active participation of young and emerging researchers. The RYC is dedicated to:
Encouraging young members’ involvement in RILEM Technical Committees (TCs), Educational Activities Committee (EAC), and Development Advisory Committee (DAC) activities.
Promoting RILEM-sponsored educational events, including courses and seminars, tailored for emerging researchers.
Offering scholarships and financial assistance to postgraduate students for attending RILEM events.
Establishing local networks to enhance visibility and accessibility of RILEM resources.
Preparing young members for leadership roles within the organization.
Recognizing and celebrating the achievements of young RILEM members through awards and publications.
Key Initiatives and Opportunities
RILEM Youth Symposium (RYS):
A fully online event tailored for researchers under 35 and early-career professionals.
Topics include advanced materials, structural performance, and sustainable construction practices.
Awards for Best Paper, Best Presentation, and Best Poster to recognize exceptional contributions.
Travel Grants:
Postgraduate students can apply for financial support to participate in RILEM events. Details are available through the RYC Secretary at assistant@rilem.org.
