GEOME - The future of environmental and civil engineering: Smart, digital, and green

The ever-increasing global population and the improvement of living standards place considerable pressure on natural resources in general and on construction materials in particular. Industrial acceleration and the horizontal expansion of urban areas also intensify negative environmental impacts, especially in certain highly sensitive geographical regions. Southern countries, including African nations, are affected by environmental issues, water stress, deadly floods, scarcity of construction materials, and prolonged periods of drought. Research fields concentrate on water resource management, household and industrial waste, natural ecosystems, climate change, innovative construction materials, and pathological issues related to stability problems, among others, which can reliably contribute to sustainable development at local, regional, and even national levels. This can be achieved through increasingly innovative interdisciplinary scientific research approaches. The outcomes of research conducted on the various congress themes can lead to reasonable solutions through upstream actions aimed at preserving natural resources, developing renewable energy, and creating safer infrastructure and built environments, ultimately serving the interests of countries most affected by environmental challenges.
During the previous edition of GeoME (GeoME 4), the conference achieved a significant milestone by ensuring the dissemination of high-quality research. Selected articles from this edition were published in a Springer journal indexed in Scopus (https://link.springer.com/conference/geome), highlighting the scientific rigor and relevance of the presented works. This achievement underscores the commitment of GeoME to fostering impactful and internationally recognized research contributions, aligning with its mission to address pressing challenges in civil and environmental engineering through innovative and interdisciplinary approaches.
In this new edition, GeoME will integrate emerging perspectives to address the evolving challenges of civil and environmental engineering. The conference will explore advancements such as smart and innovative materials for sustainable environmental and civil engineering and the transformation of urban environments through smart city initiatives, focusing on urban upgrading, transformation, and construction digitalization. It will also examine innovative applications of artificial intelligence in environmental and civil engineering, as well as the use of digital technologies and AI for heritage preservation and restoration. Finally, the role of green hydrogen in fostering sustainable and innovative civil engineering and urban development will be a key topic of exploration.
By incorporating these forward-looking themes, this edition of GeoME reaffirms its commitment to promoting innovation, sustainability, and interdisciplinary research, contributing to a cleaner and more resilient future.
